PGA Tour pro Michael Kim recently reacted to the latest photos from Kapalua’s Plantation Course. As per the photographs, the Sentry’s venue was looking good after the region suffered a drought a few months ago.
The Sentry is an annual PGA Tour event at Kapalua’s Plantation Course in Hawaii and is traditionally the first stop of the season. However, this year’s event was canceled due to an ongoing drought and a water dispute.
Thanks for the submission!
On Monday, January 5, Patrick McDonald of CBS shared the latest photograph of Kapalua. In the photo, the course looked quite fine after overcoming drought conditions.
“Photo from Kapalua just hit the inbox. Can’t believe they took this away from us,” he wrote on X.
Michael Kim also reacted to the latest image of the Sentry venue.
“You think you’re sad….😢,” he wrote.
Kim’s only start at The Sentry was in 2019 where he tied for 32nd at 4-over after four rounds. If the event had gone as planned, this year would have been his first start in seven years at the course.
Kapalua’s Plantation Course reopens after two months
On November 10, Kapalua’s Plantation Course was reopened to the public after being closed for over two months due to Maui’s strict water restrictions.
“We are deeply grateful for our agronomy team and the work they have done to bring the course back,” said Kapalua Golf General Manager Alex Nakajima was quoted as saying via Forbes. “As a key contributor to the Maui economy, reopening the Plantation Course means a lot for our community and the 300-plus employees who work at the course and restaurants. We’re thrilled to see golfers back out there again.”
Notably, the West Maui region suffered from a severe drought that led to Tier 4 water restrictions and irrigation was banned. However, they were later eased to Tier 3 and 40 percent of normal water use was allowed.
Unlike a regular course, Kapalua’s Plantation Course is a par-73 layout and has hosted The Sentry since 1999.
