DEC Acquires E-Bikes For Forest Rangers

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Forest Rangers in  DEC’s Region 5, which includes most of the 6-million acre Adirondack Park, have acquired two e-bikes to aid reduce their carbon footprint on patrols, search and rescue operations, and policing in one Adirondack campground.

The battery charged seven-speed electric motor assisted bicycles have about an 80-mile range according to Ranger Matthew Adams, who has been using one of the e-bikes.

“We’re eliminating the use of motor vehicles in the campgrounds on our patrols,” said Forest Ranger Captain Kevin Burns.
