Actor/Tenacious D singer makes surprise appearance at Auckland show to lend a hand on Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap track

Foo Fighters resumed their tour of Australia and New Zealand Saturday following a monthlong break, and as they have done a handful of times on the trek, the band delivered a cover of AC/DC’s “Big Balls.” This time, however, they were joined by Jack Black for the saucy Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap track.

Taking the stage at Auckland, New Zealand’s Mount Smart Stadium, Dave Grohl and company once again summoned their drum tech Fiona to conjure her best Bon Scott for the performance. The actor/Tenacious D singer was also in attendance — he’s currently in New Zealand filming that Minecraft movie — and did Jack Black-y things onstage during the rendition.

Grohl and Black have a long history in the studio and onstage, with the former serving as guitarist and drummer on the latter’s debut Tenacious D LP in 2001; Grohl also cameoed as Satan in the Tenacious D movie. In recent years, Black has made surprise appearances to cover Led Zeppelin, Rush, AC/DC and more alongside Foo Fighters in concert.

Foo Fighters’ tour of New Zealand wraps up next Saturday, but they’ll return to the road this spring for amphitheater shows and festival gigs, including headlining the New Orleans’ Jazz Fest, Atlanta’s Shaky Knees, and Daytona Beach’s Welcome to Rockville. After spending the early summer on a jaunt through Europe, the band resume their stateside trek with a slate of stadium shows.
