‘Doctor Who’ Sidekick Millie Gibson Replaced After One Season

by NEW YORK DIGITAL NEWS

Doctor Who star Millie Gibson, who stars opposite Ncuti Gatwa in the hit series, is being replaced after one season on BBC.

According to The Daily Mirror, Jurassic World Dominion actor Varada Sethu will take over as the Doctor’s companion Ruby Sunday in Season 15.

BBC and Bad Wolf have not yet responded to requests for comment, however, Gatwa posted a likely relevant story to Instagram featuring a picture of himself and Gibson with the caption “My lil” (see below).

The decision to replace the actress was reportedly made by Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies and Gibson will be out before the 2024 Christmas special.

“Millie Gibson has all but left now and there’s a brand new companion, which is really exciting,” said a source to the Mirror. “Russell is keeping things moving and isn’t letting the grass grow, that’s for sure.”

“Varada is a real gem,” added a BBC source. “Russell was just blown away by her talent. The cast and crew have really warmed to her and he’s sure the fans will too.”

Prior to Doctor Who, Gibson was best known for playing Kelly Neelan on British soap Coronation Street.

Her first and only full season as Ruby, which will serve as the show’s 14th overall, is slated to premiere in May on the BBC in the U.K. and Disney+ internationally.
