The record follows her venomous return on “Cobra” last year
A snake’s hiss is an alarm of intimidation, a warning sign that can precede a venomous strike. But on her latest single “Hiss,” Megan Thee Stallion is tired of sending warnings. Her time to strike has already arrived.
“I feel like Mariah Carey, got these niggas so obsessed/My pussy so famous, might get managed by Kris Jenner next,” she raps on the opening verse. The hard-hitting song continues to put her rivals on notice, with one line appearing to reference her highly publicized trial against Tory Lanez, who was found guilty of shooting the rapper in both feet. “I ain’t scared to dig/Any man go against me, I handle shit,” Megan fires off on the new track. “I’m the Teflon Don in the court room/They be throwin’ that dirt, don’t shit stick.
Megan announced “Hiss” on social media earlier this week. The record follows last year’s release of her cleansing comeback single “Cobra,” which was teased with somewhat cryptic imagery. With her latest single, the rapper is being as straightforward as possible, so her advisory is heard loud and clear.
“I just wanna kick this shit off by saying, ‘Fuck y’all!” she declared in a teaser video before the song’s release (the snippet also appears at the beginning of Hiss). “I ain’t gotta clear my name on a motherfuckin’ thang. Every time I get mentioned, one of y’all bitch ass niggas get 24 hours of attention. I’m finna get this shit off my chest and lay it to rest, let’s go!”
Megan isn’t interested in the online chatter that has surrounded her career for the last few years. In fact, anything that isn’t lending itself to defining her legacy isn’t worth much to her at all. As she told Rolling Stone in 2022: “I just always want people to remember, ‘Yes, Megan Thee Stallion, she was great, she was a rapper. She was one of the best rappers, the coldest.’”
The rapper brought in 2024 performing a medley of her hits on New Year’s Rockin Eve and popped up on Saturday Night Live last weekend to take Reneé Rapp’s performance of their Mean Girls collaboration “Not My Fault” to another planet entirely.
