Kelly Clarkson Covers Katy Perry’s ‘Wade Awake’: Watch

by NEW YORK DIGITAL NEWS

We feel like we’re on cloud nine listening to this Kellyoke cover.

On her talk show’s musical segment this week, Kelly Clarkson performed a piano-backed rendition of Katy Perry‘s hit, “Wide Awake.”

Accompanied by Musical Director Jason Halbert, the singer slowed down the Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection ballad and performed the Perry favorite acoustically, showing off her stellar vocal range.

This isn’t the first time that Clarkson paid homage to Perry. Just last year, the musician sang a version of another Teenage Dream classic, “The One That Got Away,” and “Roar” from Prism.

Clarkson and the “California Gurls” singer have been friends for several years. After Perry shared a video for “Daisies” from her album Smile, Clarkson tweeted, “Get it @katyperry, you look BEAUTIFUL in this video.”

Clarkson’s tender cover comes after Perry earned praise by a different pop star, Dua Lipa, in a recent Rolling Stone interview, sharing how “full-circle” it was to build a friendship with the pop icon.

“To get the nod from someone like her, someone who I look up to, is really encouraging,” Lipa said.

Just last week, Clarkson performed a cover of Chris Stapleton‘s love song “White Horse” from his 2023 album, Higher. She was also named one of the hosts for the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony, alongside Mike Tirico and Peyton Manning.

“Together we are hosting the opening ceremony for the Paris Olympic Games,” she told the audience before bringing them onstage during The Tonight Show. “You will never see these three individuals do anything else together. This is the most random thing they’ve done and I am down for the ride.”
