Christine and the Queens Unveils Evocative Single ‘Rentrer Chez Moi’

by NEW YORK DIGITAL NEWS

The stand-alone song follows the musician’s collaboration with MGMT earlier this year

Christine and the Queens has released a new single, “Rentrer Chez Moi.” The French-language song was written and produced by the artist, and arrived alongside a music video directed by Sasha Mongin and produced by Premier Cri. The ethereal clip was filmed in Paris and Hanches, France.

On the poetic track, the musician sings about returning home to oneself. The English translation of the lyrics showcases the meta nature of the lines: “This song makes me cry because it is true, so much love I have for you, this deep decision to always stay honest — for the dance to be then the shared moment, the joyful celebration. One moment together. A wholesome surrender. One love, from one to the next, before I danced for this video.”

The song follows Christine and the Queens’ recent collaboration with MGMT on “Dancing in Babylon,” which appeared on the duo’s recent Loss of Life LP. In an interview with Rolling Stone, MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden said “Dancing in Babylon” started off as a “silly, jokey song about this couple in Rockaway Beach that I didn’t know that well.” At first, it was more of a “happy-go-lucky, cute little song.”

“Once we brought in Christine and the Queens, it went into this whole other space where it felt like ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ or a Roxy Music ballad,” VanWyngarden said. “It’s all over the place.”
