Paddlers on the Erie Canal near North Tonawanda (Erie Canalway)In partnership with the NYS Canal Corporation and with additional funding support from DEC’s Mohawk River Watershed Basin Program the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor will be assessing amenities and access sites along the Erie Canal and Erie Canlway Trail throughout 2024.

The study will include field work, stakeholder interviews, and focus groups conducted by Colliers Engineering & Design of Rochester.

It’s hoped the assessment will help to identify needs and gaps in services and lead to development of a mile-by-mile plan for amenities improvements for recreational boaters, paddlers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. They will also look at long-term stewardship needs.
