Fishs Eddy to open first Brooklyn outpost in Dumbo this fall

Fishs Eddy, the cult-favorite Union Square home goods and dinnerware store known for its quirky products, will open its first Brooklyn location this fall in Dumbo. Developer Two Trees Management announced Thursday that the retailer signed a 10-year lease for a 3,800-square-foot outpost at 81 Front Street, about the same size as its flagship at 889 Broadway. The new store will feature vintage finds, one-of-a-kind pieces, and signature Fishs Eddy products.

“Brooklyn’s been in our DNA forever. Some of our most iconic patterns have Brooklyn brownstones and the bridge,” Julie Gaines, founder of Fishs Eddy, said. “So moving to Brooklyn was just a matter of time. Of course, we’re fashionably late, but that’s how New Yorkers roll!”

The new store will be stocked with everyday items like ceramic mugs, dinner plates, and mixing bowls, decorated with witty sayings, vintage-inspired patterns, and iconic New York City motifs.

Shoppers will also find the unique items that have made Fishs Eddy a cult favorite, from shot glasses and butter dishes shaped like landmarks to oversized serving platters depicting political satire and glassware adorned with retro diner logos.

The Dumbo expansion isn’t Fishs Eddy’s first attempt to move beyond Union Square. Since opening its flagship in 1986, the company has operated shops on the Upper East and Upper West sides, as well as smaller concept stores and outlets on Staten Island, all of which later closed, according to Commercial Observer.

Other tenants in the building, a 12-story, 476,000-square-foot property, include the architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group, a Rodd & Gunn store, and Two Trees’ headquarters. Current rents range from $42 to $48 per square foot.

Fishs Eddy’s arrival in Dumbo comes as the neighborhood continues its transformation into a vibrant design district, now home to more than 150 design firms and studios.

“Fishs Eddy’s decision to grow in Dumbo speaks to the neighborhood’s continued evolution and its allure for those who value creativity, design and a strong sense of community,” Alyssa Zahler, managing director of commercial leasing at Two Trees, told the Commercial Observer.

“This deal is a perfect match between a beloved New York brand and a district that thrives on character and authenticity.”

The store will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
