The NY Rangers kick off their 2025-2026 season by welcoming back Dan Muse back to MSG as the new head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Meanwhile the Rangers completed the coaching swap by hiring Mike Sullivan after he parted ways with Pittsburgh. The ole coach switcheroo is the main story tonight, but the other focus will be on the Blueshirts turning the page on last year’s trainwreck.
The Penguins are not expected to be good at all, but they still have Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin so they can still beat teams. That means the Rangers defensive structure will need to learn pretty quickly, or else they will fall into the same trap they fell into last year by looking lost in their own end.
There will be some growing pains with the team as they adjust to Sully, so patience is a virtue.
