Pokemon Legends Z-A sees many classic Pokemon return, including Houndoom. This iconic Dark/Fire type is one of the best dual-type picks in the gam, whether in story or for online battles, especially since it now has a brand-new Mega Evolution to go along with it.
This guide explains all there is to know about Houndoom when it corners its moveset, nature, and more. Here are the details.

Best Houndoom nature in Pokemon Legends Z-A
Houndoom can be caught in Lysandre Labs during Main Mission 35, but otherwise does not normally spawn in Wild Zones. The exception to this rule is an Alpha Houndoom in Wild Zone 6, which can be a challenge to take on, given how early this area unlocks. Otherwise, it evolves from Houndour at level 24, which can also be found in Wild Zone 6.
Houndom can work as both a ranged Special Attacker and Physical Attacker. As such, the best natures for it will be Modest (Sp. Atk+, Atk-) or Adamant (Attack+, Sp. Atk-). These boost Special and Physical stats respectively, but regardless of the nature, a hybrid moveset setup works too. Alternatively, players may want to consider Bold (Def+, Atk-) since Houndoom lacks in the Defense department.
Best Houndoom moveset in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Here is what can work for a build focused on beating the campaign:
- Fkamethrower
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Crunch
All of these are offensive moves that players can cycle between during a fight. Flamethrower and Fire Blast are powerful Fire-type moves that have been a series staple since forever, while Dark Pulse is a Dark-type Special attack. The only Physical move here is Crunch, also a Dark-type move.
As for competitive online matches, this moveset is recommended:
- Flamethrower
- Dark Pulse
- Will-o’-wisp
- Nasty Plot
Here, we trade offensive moves for utility ones. The Fire-type Will-o’-wisp inflicts a guaranteed Burn on the enemy it hits, which doesn’t just cause their HP to drop over time but also reduces their Attack stat. We recommend opening the battle with this move. Nasty Plot, meanwhile, is a Dark-type move that raises the user’s Sp. Atk stat.
Best stats for Houndoom in Pokemon Legends Z-A
Houndoom base stats:
- HP: 75
- Attack: 90
- Defense: 50
- Special Attack: 110
- Special Defense: 80
- Speed: 95
- Total: 500
Houndoom’s stats are fairly good, with the Defense being the sole exception.A t just 50, this makes it quite vulnerable to Phsycial hitting moves, especially against Fighting-types. Thankfully, the Mega Evolution mitigates this issue:
Mega Houndoom base stats:
- HP: 75
- Attack: 90
- Defense: 90
- Special Attack: 140
- Special Defense: 90
- Speed: 115
- Total: 600
In addition to this, Mega Houndoom also gains a solid boost to Special Atk and Speed, the latter of which controls how quickly a Pokemon’s move cooldowns after use. To mega Evolve Houndoom, players must obtain a Houndoominite Mega Stone from the Quasartico Inc headquarters for 180 Mega Shards.
