The Missing Persons lead vocalist requires surgery for severe capsular contracture, which has left her in constant pain and made it difficult to perform
The son of Missing Persons’s Dale Bozzio — known for her distinctive sound behind Eighties tracks “Words” and “Destination Unknown” — is reaching out to her fans to help raise money for the singer’s surgery.
Troy McKenzie began his GoFundMe message by writing that while Bozzio “is a lot of things to the world: singer, songwriter, rock star, fashion icon. To me, she is just my dear mother.” The lead singer has been suffering from “severe capsular contracture,” revealed her son, which requires immediate surgery to remove her silicone breast implants. The most severe condition (Grade 4) can lead to breasts becoming hard and misshapen, while patients can also experience soreness and pain, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
McKenzie said that Bozzio suffers “in constant pain, and it is very difficult for her to perform, record, or earn a living.” He details that after the implant removal, she will require reconstructive surgery and extensive recovery, with the goal to raise $35,000 for the surgery and post-op recovery — which McKenzie says is “not covered by insurance.”
“Every dollar donated goes directly to Dale’s medical treatments and healing so that we can get her well and back out there rocking for you,” he continued. “Your generous donation would provide much-needed financial relief and peace of mind, allowing Dale to focus solely on recovery. Missing Persons released Hollywood Lie in 2023, the new wave band’s first studio album of original tracks since 1986’s Color in Your Life. After the group disbanded, Bozzio dropped her debut album, Riot in English in 1988 — her last solo release was 2010’s Make Love Not War.
