Remy Bond Shares Shimmering Pop Song ‘Cherry Red Balloon’

Remy Bond shared a new single, “Cherry Red Balloon,” along with a kaleidoscope-inspired video for the track. The dreamy pop song was produced by John Ryan, and co-written by Ryan, Bond, and Lisa Healey.

“After feeling an otherworldly euphoria, there’s a moment of quiet for me — a calm after the storm,” Bond said in a statement. “‘Cherry Red Balloon’ is about going from feeling something so intensely to something painfully subtle. Having a euphoric night out, to waking up and going about mundane daily tasks, like the morning commute.”

The song is Bond’s first new music since her November EP, Backstage at the Tropicana. The eight-song EP included her breakthrough single “Summer Song,” co-written with Air’s Jean-Benoît Dunckel, and “Moviestar.”

Last year, Bond told Rolling Stone why she prefers a vintage aesthetic and sound. “It’s a diamond sadness and a washed-up glittery sound that works for me,” she said. She added of her EP, “I’ve always felt nostalgia was the strongest emotion. I had a magical childhood, and I think I glamorize that nostalgia in the same way I think of the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. Though the past slowly fades, I try to write each song like a reminder of those disappearing worlds. One song might take you to a 50s diner, another on a Hawaiian honeymoon.”

Bond will hit the road on a European tour in March. The trek kicks off in Vienna on March 12 and hits numerous cities, including Berlin, Zurich, Paris, and Dublin, before wrapping in London on March 31.
