AJ Styles reveals why he didn’t retire from WWE at WrestleMania

AJ Styles has revealed why he didn’t retire from WWE at WrestleMania. The former WWE Champion bid farewell to his in-ring tenure in the company last month at Royal Rumble after losing to Gunther.

This has led many fans to wonder why he retired at the premium live event and did not wait until WrestleMania 42, which was only a few months away. Styles has finally broken his silence on the decision.

In an interview with RAW Recap, the Phenomenal One said the Show of Shows has lost a little prestige over the years.

“It was coming back from an injury to WrestleMania to a match that didn’t, to me, have much build. And WrestleMania, listen, I’m sorry to say, used to be the most prestigious PLE, or pay-per-view, whatever you want to call it. But to me, it has kind of lost its luster a little bit,” he said.

He then mentioned that Royal Rumble was special to him since he made his WWE debut at the same event a decade ago.

“But as far as the Royal Rumble, that’s special to me because that’s where I made my debut. So to be able to end where I started, it’s poetic,” he added.

WWE surprised AJ Styles with Hall of Fame induction announcement

This week on RAW, WWE held a special tribute for AJ Styles following his retirement last month. The show featured appearances from Styles’ peers in TNA and NJPW, with names such as Frankie Kazarian, Luke Gallows, and Karl Anderson showing up.

The main event saw the veteran cut a promo, thanking his friends and family before he was interrupted by The Undertaker. The Phenom then announced that Styles is the latest inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

According to a report from F4W/WON, Bryan Alvarez mentioned that the news was a legitimate surprise to AJ Styles, as the promotion didn’t clue him in about his Hall of Fame induction.
