Nicolas Cage Pays $6.5M For Essex House Condo

Time and again, Nicolas Cage’s character successfully hunted down national treasures in the National Treasure film franchise. Now the actor has shown he can do the same with apartments.

Cage purchased a condo at 160 Central Park South for $6.5 million, according to public records. The actor took out a $4.55 million mortgage for the deal, which included

The home hit the market in March 2025 for $7.9 million, before the price dropped to $7.5 million in May.

Listed as Unit 2701/2703, the home is a combination of a full-sized and an accessory unit. Spanning roughly 2,400 square feet, the home has two bedrooms in the northeast and southwest corners separated by a massive great room overlooking Central Park.

The primary suite has two park-facing windows and an en-suite bathroom with a Jacuzzi soaking tub and separate shower.

Douglas Elliman’s Patricia Slochower had the listing.

The Art Deco property is part condo, part hotel, which is operated as the 527-key JW Marriott Essex House. There are 184 condos in the building.

Cage is not the first artist to pick up a unit in the building.

The late rock star David Bowie and his supermodel wife Iman lived in Essex House from 1992 to 2002, according to the New York Post. Their former unit, 915, last sold for almost $5 million in 2022.

On-again, off-again Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher bought a pad at the building for $2.5 million in 2012. The British rocker listed unit 1709 for $4 million two years later, before finally selling it two years later for $2 million.

The home at Essex House is a relatively staid purchase for Cage, who built a reputation as a big spender, especially on real estate.

Over the course of his career, Cage’s portfolio included castles in Germany and England, a mansion in New Orleans and a private island in the Bahamas. The actor blamed purchases like those, which came before the housing market crashed in 2009, for money troubles that led him to take questionable projects.
More recently, Cage paid $10.5 million for a Malibu mansion in 2024.
