At the same time, the Fire Nation secures control of Ba Sing Se, shifting the balance of power in the war. These events mark a major turning point in the story, leaving several key conflicts unresolved as the season comes to a close.
Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 recap: Why does Aang end the season unconscious?

While fighting in the battle beneath Ba Sing Se, Aang and his friends try to run away after saving Appa and liberating people who were imprisoned by the Dai Li. Azula comes between them, creating a climax. While in the Avatar State, Aang gets an advantage over his enemy, but he stops when he can destroy Azula. In retaliation, she hits Aang with lightning, making him fall down.
Katara manages to get away with Aang on Appa and heals him with Spirit Oasis water. Nevertheless, he does not wake up. The final episode ends with Aang being unconscious. Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 does not give us any information about whether Aang is alive or dead.
Why does Zuko choose Azula over Katara and Aang?
The story line for Zuko in Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 involves his internal conflict between his duty to the Fire Nation and the influence of his encounters in the Earth Kingdom. Zuko, having observed the impact of the war, starts to rethink his convictions.
In prison under Lake Laogai, he engages in dialogue with Katara, who offers to remove his scar using Spirit Water. This dialog hints at a potential change in Zuko’s allegiance.
On the other hand, Zuko is persuaded by Azula to side with her based on family connections and his need to be accepted. Ultimately, Zuko ends up fighting alongside Azula against the others.
What does the fall of Ba Sing Se mean for the war?
The capture of Ba Sing Se is a big deal in Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2.
For most of the season Ba Sing Se is like the strong hope for the Earth Kingdom. Its huge walls and location make it super important for the Fire Nation to take over. Azula knows this. Comes up with a plan to control the city from inside. She tricks Long Feng. Gets control over the Dai Li. This helps her to break down the citys leadership.
When the Fire Nation army enters Ba Sing Se, the Earth Kingdom loses an important place. The city’s fall shows how the Fire Nations strategy changes throughout the series. They do not just attack directly. Azula wins by tricking people controlling politics and putting pressure on peoples minds.
The finale also shows Toph learning something.
While she is in prison, Toph figures out how to bend metal. She learns to feel the earth bits in metal and move them with earthbending. Her new skill helps her to save her friends and get out of prison.
Even though Aangs group loses the battle for Ba Sing Se Tophs new skill is a sign. It means they might need to learn things and come up with new plans to fight the strong Fire Nation.
By the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 Aang is still asleep Ba Sing Se is under Fire Nation control. Zuko decides to stand with Azula.
These things make the world a dangerous place than before.
The finale is more, about what happens when you make choices. It sets up a situation where the heroes must come together again after a big loss.
