December’s always an interesting time in the wild world of network television. There’s usually a slew of holiday specials — NBC’s annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center and ABC’s CMA Country Christmas aired earlier this month — but a handful of your favorite TV shows often go on hiatus.
ABC’s freshman hit High Potential is off until January, while Doctor Odyssey, Grey’s Anatomy, and 9-1-1 are on hiatus until March. That brings us to The Rookie and Will Trent.
These two fan favorites have yet to return for Seasons 7 and 3, respectively, with ABC electing to hold their season premieres until 2025. When exactly will new episodes of The Rookie air on ABC? Here’s everything you need to know.

Nope. Olaf’s Frozen Adventure airs from 8:00-8:30 p.m. ET, followed by Toy Story That Time Forgot. The nine o’clock hour belongs to Disney Prep & Landing and Disney Prep & Landing 2: Naughty vs. Nice.
A repeat of America’s Funniest Home Videos ends the night at 10:00 p.m. ET.
When Does The Rookie Return With New Episodes?
The seventh season of The Rookie debuts Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 10:00 p.m. ET on ABC. The episode will be preceded by the returns of Will Trent and High Potential.
