2025 Rangers trade deadline summary

The trade deadline has come and gone. The Rangers got things started early, not including the JT Miller trade, with the Ryan Lindgren and Jimmy Vesey trade. The Rangers also traded pending UFA Reilly Smith and traded for defenseman Carson Soucy the other day, leading to a rather dull deadline day. All in all, the 2025 Rangers trade deadline summary is small, with only three trades.

Trade 1: Rangers trade Ryan Lindgren and Jimmy Vesey to Colorado

The first trade involved the Rangers sending defenseman Ryan Lindgren and forward Jimmy Vesey, both pending UFAs, to Colorado for forward Juuso Parssinen (pending RFA), defenseman Calvin de Haan (pending UFA), a 2nd round pick, and a 4th round pick.

There were rumblings the Rangers may move de Haan, but that turned out to be a dud.

Trade 2: Rangers trade Reilly Smith to Vegas

After sitting a couple of games for roster management reasons, the Rangers finally sent Reilly Smith to Vegas for a 3rd round pick (San Jose) and prospect Brendan Brisson. Brisson was sent to Hartford, and while the initial reaction was mixed, it’s clear this was a fine trade.

Brisson is agent Pat Brisson’s son. Pat represents Jack Eichel.

Trade 3: Rangers acquire Carson Soucy from Vancouver

The third round pick acquired for Reilly Smith was immediately sent to Vancouver for defenseman Carson Soucy. Given the low acquisition cost, this was a fine trade by Chris Drury, taking a chance on a guy who is having an atrocious year, but one that appears to be a blip after several strong years in the top-four. Given the drama in Vancouver, the hope is a change of scenery and a change in deployment helps Soucy.

Soucy has another year left on his contract at $3.25 million.
