The longtime Upper East Side co-op of a key Central Park supporter is on the market. Norma Dana, who passed away last year, founded the Central Park Conservancy’s Women’s Committee and led fundraising efforts for several improvement and restoration projects in the park, including the creation of the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center with her husband. The park champion’s three-bedroom apartment at 550 Park Avenue hit the market this spring for $4,950,000.

Norma started the Women’s Committee to raise critical funds for repairs to the park. Since its founding in 1983, the committee has raised more than $200 million. Along with her husband, Charles A. Dana, Jr., Norma helped restore the north end of Central Park, including the creation of the Dana Discovery Center.

Located on the 16th floor of the pre-war co-op called the Yosemite, the apartment measures nearly 1,900 square feet. The home is entered via semi-private elevator landing that leads to a large gallery.

Through a paneled archway is a huge corner living room with three windows, a wood-burning fireplace, and soaring 10-foot ceilings. Original details like crown moldings and herringbone floors have been well preserved.

A formal dining room has enough space for a large dinner party. Pocket doors separate the space from the living room, providing a flexible floor plan depending on the event.

The kitchen is bright and sunny with plenty of storage space. In addition to the glass-front cabinets, there’s a separate pantry.

The other side of the apartment features the three bedrooms, two of which are connected by a full bathroom. Currently, one bedroom is set up as a library and is lined with built-in bookshelves.

Down a long hallway is the private primary suite, which has floor-to-ceiling wardrobes, a walk-in closet, and an en-suite bath.

According to the listing, this unit can be combined with the neighboring unit 16AE, a two-bedroom currently available for $1.98 million, to create a full-floor apartment.

The building at 550 Park Avenue was designed by J.E.R. Carpenter, one of the city’s most prolific designers of luxury residential buildings. The building was erected in 1917 and converted to a co-op in 1952. The 17-story building has just 32 apartments.
