Per Elliotte Friedman on 32 Thoughts, Rangers forward Artemi Panarin wants the biggest deal he can get, and won’t be taking any discounts. Seeing a new Panarin rumor isn’t overly surprising, as the Rangers have been awfully quiet on this front and usually when that happens, they are “quietly shopping.” Panarin has been the best Rangers UFA signing in organizational history, and it’s not even close, but off-ice allegations and sexual assault settlements have plagued him the last year.
Panarin is off to a slow start with the Rangers, along with the rest of the team. His 2-5-7 line in 11 games looks fine enough, but more than half of that came in one game. The entire Rangers team is starved for offense, so it’s not just Panarin, but a slow start like this certainly impacts his trade value.
If and when the Rangers trade Panarin, his no-move clause will likely be an obstacle, but not as big an obstacle as previously thought. If he’s serious about going the free agency route, he will likely welcome a change in scenery to a contender that can put the puck in the net consistently, making his scoring stats a bit sexier come June. We will see more Panarin rumors in the coming months.
