Former F1 driver Damon Hill commented on rookie Oliver Bearman’s reaction to racing alongside reigning World Champion Max Verstappen, as he claimed to be “shi**ing himself.” The duo shared a short on-track battle in Mexico.
This happened during the race’s initial laps. As Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen went wheel-to-wheel for position, Oliver Bearman managed to gain enough time on both drivers and closed up on the turn 4, 5, and 6 section of the track.
Hamilton’s corner cutting and abrupt rejoining slowed Verstappen down further, and Bearman attacked the Dutchman, getting ahead of him. However, he had to battle with the RBR driver wheel-to-wheel. Reacting to the short battle, Bearman shared a hilarious reaction, saying:
“Honestly, I was shi**ing myself going side by side with Max.”
Damon Hill, reacting to the statement, dropped a short reaction on social media.
“You showed him!😂😂😂,” he wrote.

Despite the daring overtake, however, Verstappen was able to get ahead of Bearman later in the race, clinching a P3, slightly increasing his chances of clinching the World Championship this season.
Meanwhile, Bearman finished in P4, marking his career-best F1 finish. He debuted with Haas full-time this season but had some experience racing for Ferrari at Jeddah in 2024. He was called in at the time to replace Carlos Sainz, who had undergone surgery.
Max Verstappen did not expect to finish on the podium in Mexico
Despite their pace in recent races, Red Bull Racing struggled in Mexico. Verstappen found it hard to set competitive laptimes during the qualifying session. Moreover, he started the race in P5 but gained places right at the start.
RBR capitalized on his strategy, and he found himself battling within the top three in the race’s final stages. Verstappen was also close to overtaking Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari to clinch P2; however, a final-lap virtual safety car slowed the race down. The Dutchman found a place on the podium, which, in his words, was not what he expected from the race.
“We had a good final stint, I was enjoying that, I think the pace was a little bit more competitive compared to all the cars around me – except McLaren I would say. I personally didn’t expect to be on the podium today,” he said (via F1).
Lando Norris won the race, and with it, he took the lead of the World Championship from his teammate Oscar Piastri by one point. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen follows him up with a 36-point gap.
