Former New York State Senator James L. Seward dies at 72


MILFORD (WBNG) — Former New York State Senator James L. Seward has died at 72 years old.

Former Chief of Staff Duncan S. Davie said that Senator Seward died Saturday morning, July 27, after a battle with cancer in a press release.

Senator Seward was a member of the New York State Senate from 1987-2020 and represented the 50th and 51st Senatorial Districts including Otsego, Cortland and parts of Chenango and Delaware Counties.

“The family appreciates the prayers and support of the many well-wishers who have encouraged them in recent days and weeks and requests understanding as they grieve his passing, ” Davie wrote.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later time, according to the press release.

Seward was born in Oneonta, New York.
