How Aaron Boone has accepted need for fan-angering decisions

When he is not managing the Yankees, Aaron Boone enjoys his corners of the sports world where he can still be a fan.

Most notably, that means the Philadelphia Eagles and USC football. Of course, that comes with being in a group text with friends and fellow fans of those teams, which includes some second-guessing of the head coaches, Nick Sirianni and Lincoln Riley, respectively, from those friends.

“Guys [in the USC group text] are going crazy on every play call,” Boone said one day late in spring training. “I’m probably a little more understanding of coaches’ positions and things like that. So I get that part of it.”

Boone, of course, is no stranger to being second-guessed and criticized for every move he makes (or doesn’t make). It comes with the territory, especially in New York.
