It feels like “Wait ’til next year” got a little bit of a jumpstart with the Jets this year.
After all, we usually get to November, or at least October, before we start talking about the following season.
But you can already feel a weird undercurrent around the 2026 season where it feels as if Jets fans are just hoping it goes OK and then the real expectations will come in 2027, when the Jets have three first-round picks and are expected to use one of them on a quarterback.
That is why it seems as if everything around the Jets this year is going to be viewed through the lens of what it means for 2027 and beyond. That started last week with the NFL draft. Jets general manager Darren Mougey drew rave reviews for his drafting. We’ll see how it actually turns out. But you have to appreciate the plan, if nothing else.
