Jeff Malcolm named new Rangers goalie coach

It’s the end of an era for the New York Rangers. After 20 years as an assistant/goalie coach, Benoit Allaire is taking a step back. Jeff Malcolm is the new Rangers goalie coach, after spending the last three seasons in the same role with the Hartford Wolf Pack. Malcolm will resume the day to day responsibilities, with Allaire still hanging around in a lesser role.

If you recall, Malcolm was actually with the Rangers organization as a player dating back to 2013-2014, bouncing between Hartford and Greenville after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Yale. Malcolm had a couple of years between retiring as a player (2017) and being brought back as a goalie consultant with the Wolf Pack in 2018.

It’s safe to assume Malcolm will still be learning as much as he can from Allaire before he fully retires. Allaire’s last great work with the Rangers may be helping fix Igor Shesterkin‘s glove side issues last season. It’s safe to assume Allaire played a role in Malcolm’s promotion.
