Roosevelt Island luxury rental Manhattan Park unveiled the design for its 11th annual outdoor pool art installation this week. Titled “Waves of Joy,” this year’s design comes from Parisian artist Meri Karapetyan, who spent 14 days and used 26 gallons of paint to transform the waterfront pool deck with vibrant hues inspired by water, leaves, and the summer sun. The mural is part of the community’s annual Pop-Up Pool Party, which debuts each summer to beautify the outdoor space ahead of pool season.

“This mural is not just about decoration; it’s an invitation to reconnect with nature and embrace the lightness of the present moment, making the pool a true gathering spot filled with happiness and positivity,” Karapetyan said.

Sitting alongside the East River, the 60-foot pool at the 8.5-acre luxury residential complex features a sun deck with sweeping city views and a welcoming, park-like atmosphere. The pool is open to Roosevelt Island residents as well as non-residents to join on a seasonal, monthly, or daily time-slot basis.

Now in its 11th year, the cherished tradition celebrates artists by offering a large-scale canvas to showcase their work. Manhattan Park remains committed to the annual installation, which has become a beloved neighborhood fixture and a colorful kickoff to the summer season.

“The tradition of artists transforming the pool deck at Manhattan Park every summer has become a cornerstone of the community’s identity,” Jodi Stasse, EVP of New Developments at the Corcoran Group, said.

“Meri Karapetyan’s piece brings a refreshing and inspiring brightness to the space, which is shared by both Manhattan Park residents and Roosevelt Island visitors alike.”

In 2023, artist James Gortner was selected for the ninth annual installation, chosen for his bold, colorful style and imaginative vision. His striking design explored themes of the joy of existence and sustainability.

More information about pool memberships and the community can be found here. All Roosevelt Island residents can join; full season memberships start at $550 for individuals who live on the island and $1100 for non-residents.
