Mercedes Mone is arguably one of the most iconic female stars from the last decade who has played a major role in shaping the current state of women’s wrestling across different promotions. The CEO is set to run it back this year as she’s in the finals of the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup once again after winning it last year. She recently assaulted her Forbidden Door opponent Maya World on Collision and has now finally broken silence following the attack.
Mercedes Mone became one of the biggest stars in AEW within just a few months of her debut in the company. She won the TBS Championship shortly after becoming All Elite and had a great run with the title. She took up the Belt Collector gimmick around last year and started winning titles from different promotions. She once held 13 Championship belts simultaneously and even broke Ultimo Dragon’s record of holding 10 belts together. However, things started going downhill for her after last year’s All In Texas event.
Mone suffered her first singles loss against “Timeless” Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World title at All In: Texas. After that, she challenged for the title several times again but came up short. She also started losing all her titles and decided to take a long hiatus from the ring after losing her TBS title to Willow Nightingale on the last episode of Dynamite of 2025. She recently returned to AEW as a surprise entrant in the tournament and has now reached the finals.
Her opponent for Forbidden Door was finalised at the recent episode of Collision when Maya World defeated Athena. Following the match, Mercedes Mone and Athena teamed up together and laid out an assault on Maya. After the assault, Mone has finally shared her reaction by posting several pictures on her Instagram account while posing with the Owen Hart Foundation Cup belt she won last year.
It will be interesting to see if Mercedes Mone will win the Owen Hart Foundation Cup once again this year.
Mercedes Mone could end up facing Thekla at AEW All In London 2026
Mercedes Mone is back on track to become the AEW Women’s World Championship. She only has one obstacle left infront of her, that being Maya World who she will face at next Sunday’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view in the Owen Hart Foundation Cup finals. If she wins the match, she will earn her a spot as the Challenger for the company’s Women’s World title at the All In London pay-per-view at the iconic Wembley Stadium.
However, if Mone manages to win the finals at Forbidden Door, she will come face-to-face with the Toxic Spider in Wembley. Both Thekla and Mone are two of the biggest female heels in the Jacksonville-based company.
It will definitely be a treat to see two of the most entertaining heels in the business feud over the AEW Women’s World title.
