He bent his left foot awkwardly after LB Da’Sahwn Hand tackled him from behind. An MRI later confirmed that the Chiefs quarterback suffered an ACL tear.
Mahomes shared an update on social media after the game, expressing his disappointment with the injury while vowing to make a strong comeback.
“Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie it hurts. But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you Chiefs kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I will be back stronger than ever.”
Chiefs DT Chris Jones shares his honest thoughts on Patrick Mahomes’ injury
In the postgame press conference, veteran DT Chris Jones shared his true feelings on the injury sustained by his quarterback and friend.
He highlighted how they’ve been through several obstacles together throughout their journey in Kansas City and wished Patrick Mahomes a quick recovery.
“I just hugged him , man. That’s my brother,” Jones said. “We’ve been through so much. And you know, we can be mad at ourselves and we can ask God why. But at times it’s more so a lesson that you’ve been taught along the journey and would be selfish to ask God why.
“Why right now or why this, more so understand it, build from it. We love Pat.”
The Chiefs (6-8) next face the Titans (2-12) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
