The Rangers have now laid a few too many eggs in a short span for us to be comfortable with how they started the season. The lines are in a blender, the defense pairs that aren’t working remain the same, and players that aren’t playing well and/or are still injured continue to play significant roles in the lineup. No team is perfect and every team goes through a rough patch, but this one feels self inflicted by the Blueshirts.
The Rangers steamrolled Detroit when they played them a couple weeks ago, but that was when the Rangers were playing well. Detroit may be a bubble team and clearly worse than the Rangers, but they are still dangerous, especially that top line. If the Rangers continue to be a black hole on defense, this won’t end well.
