The New York Rangers are in Sunrise to take on the Florida Panthers C team as both try to jockey for improved draft lottery odds. I say the C team because if you look at the lineup, it reads more like a lineup from a preseason game than a regular season game. The Panthers are the most banged up team in the NHL, which is why they were so bad this year. Can’t say the same about the Rangers, who were bad because they are bad.
That said, the Rangers are 30th in the NHL right now thanks to a Calgary win last night. A loss tonight guarantees they can’t finish higher than 29th. Calgary holds the regulation wins tiebreaker on the Rangers for 29th, which means a tie in points goes to the Flames and the Rangers would stick to 30th. A 30th place finish guarantees a top-5 pick. A 29th place finish guarantees a top-6 pick.
