Per Vince Mercogliano, there are two changes in the NY Rangers lines tonight. The first is Reilly Smith is back in the lineup after a one game hiatus. He replaces Brett Berard, who was hurt in Saturday’s win over Montreal. The second is Jonny Brodzinski draws back in, with Jimmy Vesey coming out. Both Smith and Brodzinski have been fine this season, so there shouldn’t be too much of a roster shock.
The Vesey/Brodzinski swap is probably going to be a steady rotation between the two. Sam Carrick and Adam Edstrom have earned their spots, and there’s no reason to force a more complication rotation. Vesey and Brodzinski are both your typical 12/13F players, so if one gets hot, he stays in. Otherwise, a rotation is fine.
As for Berard, hopefully he gets better soon. He clearly belonged in the NHL, probably from the start, and he was inserting some nice and much needed energy into an aging core that needed something. Reilly Smith was the odd man out, though there’s a strong case that he shouldn’t have been.
