Notably, Sikkim won the toss and opted to bowl first. Despite Mumbai not batting first, fans turned out in massive numbers to watch Rohit Sharma. With India scheduled to host New Zealand for three ODIs in January 2026, Rohit is expected to play only the initial matches of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

However, his presence comes as a massive boost for Mumbai. He will be keen to make the most of his time in the domestic 50-over competition. The veteran has been in solid form, scoring 146 runs from three matches with two half-centuries in the recent ODIs against South Africa.

It will serve as a preparatory ground for Rohit to carry his form and remain in touch, leading into the 2027 ODI World Cup.
