Edward Lange (1846–1912) was a German immigrant and prolific painter who lived and worked on Long Island during a time of rapid societal, cultural, and infrastructural transformation.
Between 1870 and 1889, he produced detailed works of art in watercolor, gouache, ink, and lead pencil depicting local homesteads, businesses, and communities across the region.
His artwork circulated within Long Island and beyond, drawing in tourists seeking recreational fun in towns along the North and South Shores.
