Rangers recall Matthew Robertson, assign Dylan Garand and Zac Jones to Hartford

The Rangers have recalled defenseman Matthew Robertson and assigned goalie Dylan Garand and defenseman Zac Jones to Hartford. Jones’ reassignment is for conditioning, thus he didn’t need to go through waivers. Garand’s return to Hartford was expected once it was made known that Igor Shesterkin would be ready for this weekend’s critical back-to-back. Garand was always a temporary plug until Shesterkin was good to go.

As for Robertson, he replaces Jones as the 7D while he’s on his conditioning assignment. Jones has really been screwed by the Rangers this year. He earned, at the very least, 3LD minutes at the start of the season. He was arguably better than half the blue line before Urho Vaakanainen and Will Borgen were acquired, and he’s at least better than Ryan Lindgren right now. Though that ship has sailed.

Hopefully Jones looks good enough to either earn some minutes with the Rangers or generate more trade interest.
