During Amazon’s annual Upfront presentation on May 11, 2026, Prime Video officially announced that The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power season 3 will premiere on November 11, 2026.
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power season 3 will reportedly take place several years after the events of season 2 and will focus on the height of the war between the Elves and the Dark Lord Sauron. The story is expected to follow Sauron’s rise in power as he attempts to forge the One Ring and tighten his control over Middle-earth.

The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power season 3 leaps forward several years to the peak of the war between the Elves and Sauron. The story centers on the Dark Lord’s desperate mission to forge the One Ring, the final weapon he needs to conquer all of Middle-earth.
Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay return to lead the production alongside a seasoned team of executive producers, including Lindsey Weber and director Charlotte Brändström.
Set thousands of years before The Hobbit, this prequel explores the legendary Second Age: a time when great kingdoms rose and fell, and unlikely heroes fought to keep hope alive. From the Elven capital of Lindon to the island of Númenor, these characters must face the return of an ancient evil that threatens to plunge their entire world into darkness.
During the announcement of The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power season 3, Amazon highlighted that the series is a massive global hit, drawing in over 185 million viewers. It remains one of Prime Video’s most popular and successful titles, supported by a dedicated international fan base.
Speaking about the show’s growing global popularity and the excitement surrounding the upcoming season, Amazon MGM Studios’ Head of Global Television, Peter Friedlander, praised the series for its large-scale storytelling and strong audience response worldwide:

The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power premiered its first season on September 1, 2022, followed by the second season on August 29, 2024. Both seasons consist of eight episodes each. Fans can stream the entire series on Prime Video before catching up to the upcoming season.
