Scott Weiland’s son shared a strange but sweet video in which he communed with his father’s spirit via a Chucky doll
Noah Weiland, son of late Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland, convenes with his dad’s spirit via a Chucky doll in the strange but sweet new video for his cover of STP’s “Sex Type Thing.”
The younger Weiland paired his stripped-down acoustic cover of the 1993 track with a music video that finds him wandering around town with a menacing little Chucky doll, who seems to quickly go from friend to father figure. Paired with these out-there visuals are rather poignant subtitles as Noah ponders time and grief, ultimately leading him to embrace the present and enjoy every moment with the doll before losing track of him.
“I wish I could dream about you forever,” the last few subtitles read. “But it’s ok… because for now I will carry on your legacy.”
On Instagram, Noah said the video was inspired by “a dream I had long ago about seeing my father again.” He added, “It’s hard for me to stay in the moment sometimes, but I try.”
Noah’s cover of “Sex Type Thing” marks his first new track of 2025. Last year, he released a handful of original cuts, including “Limbo,” “Twilight,” and “Time Will Tell.” The latter track notably featured previously unreleased vocals from Scott, and Noah dropped the song amidst an allegation that someone was demanding $2,000 or they’d leak an older version of the recording.
In a 2023 interview with Rolling Stone, Noah spoke about carving his own path in music, especially after a difficult childhood. “I’m not a trust fund baby or anything like that,” he said. “I always get annoyed when people say that type of stuff. My dad was millions in debt when he died. My mom has always worked a normal job. And truthfully, even if my dad’s estate ever does get out of debt, I don’t even want that money. I want to make a career out of myself as much as possible.”
