Former Australian captain Aaron Finch reckons that struggling Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Cameron Green must be pushed to the top of the order because he has produced his best numbers there. Finch also added that he would give one more chance to opener Finn Allen and would replace him with Tim Seifert if he fails again.
KKR have made a shocking start to IPL 2026 and are yet to register a win in this year’s edition. Having played five matches, they have lost four, while one game ended in no result. KKR will take on Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, April 17.
During a discussion on ESPNcricinfo, Finch urged KKR to restructure their batting order. He commented:
“It gets to the point where you’re wondering what Cameron Green’s best role is within the side. His best numbers are at the top of the order, in my opinion. That’s where he can have the biggest impact. So, I think you’ve just got to restructure the side, and Cameron Green goes to the top. You don’t worry about the Narine effect anymore, you just leave that to bed.
“Then it comes down to the decision between Seifert and Finn Allen. So, I’d still go Finn Allen one more game. So I’d go Green, Allen, Rovman Powell. He’s a good player, but get him into the game. Don’t just keep leaving him till right at the end. And obviously Narine, it looks like he’s bowling as well as he ever has,” the 39-year-old went on to add.
Green has managed just 56 runs in five innings so far in IPL 2026. As for Allen, he has scored 81 runs in five innings.
Aaron Finch predicts another loss for KKR
While KKR are yet to register a win in IPL 2026, GT are on a high, having won their last two games. Sharing his prediction for Friday’s match, Finch stated that GT are likely to prove too strong for KKR, who are still trying to figure out their best combination. He said:
“With Jos Buttler back in form, back playing well, that is so huge for GT. So, I just can’t see the way that KKR have been playing, that they can just turn it around like that. It’s a difficult game. Yes, I know T20 has high variance, so there is an opportunity for them to just throw caution to the wind and everything goes their way, but I’d have to go with GT.”
In their previous IPL 2026 match, KKR went down to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 32 runs at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
