
The six largest retail leases within the five boroughs of NYC in January indicate that NYC is getting a big new bar as well as a new place to get your laundry done. However, neither of those offerings nabbed the top spot on this list. In fact, the number one lease below represents a certain department store’s first lease in Manhattan in almost a decade. Read on to see which companies inked the city’s top retail leases last month.
1) T.J. Maxx | 50 West 34th Street | Garment District | 40,000 sf
The department store inked a new 10-year lease in the Garment District building, marking its first new lease in Manhattan in almost ten years. Richard Skulnik of Ripco Real Estate represented the tenant, while the landlord was represented in-house.
2) Petco | 2475 Broadway | Upper West Side | 15,000 sf
The pet store chain inked a 10-year lease renewal for its location on the Upper West Side, where it has been operating for about 20 years. Andrew Mandell, Brian Schuster and Sam Marotrella of Ripco Real Estate represented the tenant, while Andrew Goldberg of CBRE represented the landlord, Stephen Haymes.
3) LaundryBee | 115-53 Sutphin Boulevard | Jamaica | 10,000 sf
The self-service laundromat inked a new 20-year lease in the Jamaica building, taking over a space previously operated by Dollar Tree. Noam Aziz and Aaron Harounian of Meridian Capital Group represented both the tenant and the landlord, the Koptiev family.
4) Clown Car | 31 Second Avenue | East Village | 6,500 sf
The hospitality operator signed a new 10-year lease in the East Village building, where it plans to open a new bar concept. Justin Losh of Counter Real Estate represented the tenant, while Elliot Wygoda of Meridian Retail Leasing represented the landlord, Central Management Corporation.
5) Willspace | 150 Barrow Street | West Village | 3,500 sf
The personal training studio inked a new lease in the West Village building, relocating to the larger space from their old digs at 513 Hudson Street. Jacky Yedid of KSR Realty represented the tenant, while Jake Bank and Jared Epstein of Aurora Capital Associates represented the landlords in-house. The building is owned by Aurora Capital Associates and William Gottlieb Real Estate.
6) United Xtreme Martial Arts | 686 Grand Street | East Williamsburg | 2,400 sf
The taekwondo school inked a new lease in the East Williamsburg building. Thomas Galo of RTL represented the tenant, while Justin Tierney and Manuel Del Nido of Corcoran represented the landlord, Tam Le.
