Zara Larsson Denies Being Asked To Join Fifth Harmony

“I just couldn’t take not singing lead all the time,” the singer explained in response to the long-time rumors

addressed rumors that she was approached to join Fifth Harmony to replace Camila Cabello, saying she was never in line to be part of the popular girl group.

The singer, speaking in the Spotify Live Room, denied having ever been offered a spot in the now-defunct group. “Oh, no. I don’t do groups,” she said. “I would never be in a group.”

She added that generally she is “a big fan of girl groups.” “I love that,” she noted. “And I also like that I feel like the girl groups are coming back big time.”

She clarified that if she were ever part of one she would need to be “front center.” “I love a girl group,” she said. “I just couldn’t take not singing lead all the time.”

Larsson toured with Fifth Harmony in 2014 as an opening act on Cher Lloyd’s I Wish tour. “I actually loved to be on that tour,” she recalled. “That’s memories for life. What a good time that was. What an era.”

Fifth Harmony was formed in 2012 as part of the second season of The X Factor USA. It consisted of Cabello, Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui, and Normani Kordei, however Cabello left the group in 2016 to pursue a solo career. The group carried on as a four-piece until 2018.

In 2025, Fifth Harmony, minus Cabello, reunited at a Jonas Brothers show in Dallas. The four-piece performed “Worth It” and “Work From Home.” The appearance came after two years of speculation that the group was considering getting back together (Rolling Stone shut down reunion rumors in 2024).

The members of Fifth Harmony have been friendly with each other over the last few years. All of the group’s members (including Cabello) shared tributes for the 10th anniversary of the group’s formation in 2022, and came together to congratulate Normani for dropping her debut album last summer. Most recently, Cabello shared videos of herself dancing to Fifth Harmony’s “Work From Home” with girl group Katseye, and said in December 2024 that she and Normani were “getting back” to feeling like when they were “really close.”
