“Mexican hip hop is dope,” says Rich the Kid as he teases a single featuring Peso Pluma
Santa Fe Klan is bringing cross-cultural collaborators into his barrio. On Thursday, the Mexican rap star — who made his Coachella debut earlier this month — released the video for his new song “Plomo,” featuring a freestyle rap verse from Rich the Kid. The video premieres exclusively on Rolling Stone.
“It was really dope to collaborate with Rich,” Santa Fe says. “We got a chance to fuse both of our cultures and languages to create something really special that I know both of our fans are going to love. I appreciate him for supporting the música de barrio movement and jumping on this track with me.”
The track marks Rich’s second consecutive foray into Spanish-language tracks after joining Ryan Castro on “Rich Rappers” last month. He recently teased “an entire Latin album coming out in the near future.”
“Working with Santa Fe Klan on ‘Plomo’ was a great experience. I recorded my verse in Atlanta and completely freestyled it,” Rich says. “Mexican hip-hop is dope, I love it. It’s a vibe.” Rich also tells Rolling Stone that he’ll feature Peso Pluma on “Gimme a Second” from his upcoming LP Life’s a Gamble, out this summer.
Before his main stage Coachella stage earlier this month, Santa Fe revealed to Rolling Stone that he had invited Rich to perform the song with him at the festival, but the rapper was unable to make it to the desert. “Plomo” will be featured on Santa Fe’s upcoming LP.
“[There are a] lot of features, and some solo songs, but we are working also on a different project that I want to add instruments to my rap songs and play them myself. We’re finishing it now,” he said, adding that the second new album will feature him playing everything from sax and clarinet to accordion and trumpet.
“Plomo” follows the release of Santa Fe’s “Una Raya Más” with Nicky Jam, “Polvo Rosa” with Snow tha Product, and “No Son Klle” with Peso Pluma. Meanwhile, Rich the Kid was featured on Quavo’s “Real One” and will be included on a posthumous Takeoff-featuring track on Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s new album.
