Not every bit of news in August is important or newsworthy, but the Rangers dropped a bombshell on the fans yesterday. Sam Rosen’s final season will be the 2024-2025 season, as he will be retiring after 45 years of calling the New York Rangers. Rosen began calling Rangers games in 1977, and will retire at the age of 77. Rather fitting.
The news is bittersweet. Sam has been the voice of a generation, and many of us know only his as the voice of the New York Rangers. Living out his dream, Rosen‘s calls have been enthusiastic, (mostly) positive, and truly professional. There is some valid criticism to Rosen’s last few seasons, as it’s clear he’s a little behind where he used to be. The “Excuse me, that’s…” gag has been going on a bit too long.
The only question about Sam Rosen’s final season is whether the Rangers will honor him with a banner on his final night. He certainly deserves it.
