  • Westgate Las Vegas is where a lucky slots player won $10.2 million
  • The progressive jackpot hit on only a $5 bet
  • $10.2 million isn’t anywhere near the largest jackpots in Las Vegas history

A visitor from Atlanta won big only minutes after arriving in Las Vegas, the Westgate reports.

Westgate Las Vegas, the famed off-Strip casino resort along Paradise Road, is where one lucky slots player turned $5 into more than $10.2 million.

The property owned by Orlando-based Westgate Resorts reports that a visitor from Atlanta, who had only arrived minutes earlier, sat down to play Wolf Run Eclipse. The Megabucks progressive quickly welcomed the Georgian with much fanfare.

Westgate says the player’s $5 spin triggered a bonus round, where they eventually won the Megabucks jackpot. The official payout was $10,292,911.55.

Las Vegas is built on unforgettable moments, and it doesn’t get much more memorable than turning a $5 bet into more than $10 million,” said Cami Christensen, president and general manager of Westgate Las Vegas. “We’re thrilled for our guest from Atlanta and love seeing these legendary stories happen at Westgate.”

Wolf Run Eclipse is a game from IGT, a global gaming leader in slot machines.

Winner’s Details

Westgate said its big winner opted to withhold their identity and did not pose for a photograph.

However, rumors quickly surfaced on social media that the winner arrived in Las Vegas on Tuesday ahead of Infocomm 2026, the annual convention of the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association (AVIXA).

Infocomm brings an estimated 40,000 attendees to Las Vegas, with the Strip’s Convention Center hosting the AV gathering for 2026. Las Vegas hosts Infocomm every other year, with Orlando typically the other host city.

The winner’s take will be subjected to federal taxes of 37%, the highest tax bracket for filers in 2026. That will reduce the $10.2 million windfall by about $3.8 million.

Progressives pool their large advertised jackpots from thousands of linked machines through a wide-area network, or WAN. Each time a player spins, a small, predetermined percentage of the bet is allocated for the wide-area progressive prize.

If a player bets $3 on a spin, typically about six to nine cents go to the progressive jackpot.

Largest Las Vegas Jackpots

While $10.2 million is certainly newsworthy, Las Vegas has seen much bigger slot jackpots.

The largest of all-time came in March 2003 when a 25-year-old player won $39.7 million on a Megabucks progressive. Three years earlier, a local cocktail waitress won $35 million while playing a slot machine at the since-defunct Desert Inn.

In November 1998, a 67-year-old retired flight attendant won $27.6 million at Palace Station. In March 2022, a 74-year-old won $22.6 million at Bally’s (now Horseshoe) while on her way to breakfast.

Rounding out the top five is a $21.3 million slot jackpot won at Caesars Palace in June 1999. A 49-year-old business consultant was in town for a convention when he struck it rich on a $10 spin.
